Why Denver? {Day 2}

One of the most frequent questions we were asked when we started telling people we were moving to Denver was, "why Denver?" My first thought was always, why not? :) We were looking for a change, and a great job opportunity came up in Denver. Lover had traveled to Denver several times for his previous job, so he was familiar with it. I knew that it had the Rockies nearby, would be a completely new place, and was a large enough city that we would have all of the familiar stores and conveniences plus more that we never had in our hometown. Plus, who doesn't want to live a mile higher than everyone else?

We had actually been talking about moving to the Pacific Northwest, so Denver was a bit of a surprise to us to. When the recruiter called Lover, we were both kind of taken aback, but then we realized "hey, we hadn't really considered it, but sure!"

Now, we've only been here a week, but our first impressions have been good ones. It is so interesting to be in a city that is thriving and growing by leaps and bounds. One of the leasing agents we spoke with said there are currently about 15,000 apartments being built over the next year alone! Everywhere you look something is being built, in fact one of the apartment complexes we looked at was being built while we were there! They were literally finishing a building, renting it out and working on the next one. As we toured the apartment, we looked out the windows at the crews rolling out sod and planting trees.

The climate has been really interesting so far. The first four days were really warm, - 86 and sunny. Since then it has been more fall-like, some clouds, some rain, lower temps. But the storms are what really get me. They seem to come out of no where! Lover was stuck on the highway for 25 minutes in a hail storm - it was hailing so hard that people just gave up on driving and parked under bridges in an attempt to protect their cars. I'm definitely learning that I need to be more prepared for the swings in weather.

One of the things I love the most here (besides the mountains) is what I've always called "big sky." You can see for miles. There are some more settled/wooded areas, but for the most part it is open and clear and there is sky as far as you can see. It's awesomely freeing for a claustrophobic like me.

I'm so excited to have a new home base. We are 6-8 hours from awesome places like Mount Rushmore, Salt Lake City, and Yellowstone National Park. We've got an entire new state to explore, mountains to visit, and favorite places to find. The possibilities are endless, you might say. :)
